Onra- “I Wanna Go Back”

Check out this Vietnamese hip hop track, titled: "I Wanna Go Back" from off the album, Chinoiseries on Bo Bun Records (2008). Onra, a French Vietnamese DJ, beatmaker and world traveler visited Vietnam, the land of his grandparents, and collected around 30 vinyls. He took these records to his house, made some cool beats that eventually became this compilation of Vietnamese hip hop. He donates a portion of the money made from this record to "La Goutte d’ Eau" association which helps underprivileged families and children in the orphanages of Vietnam.

Roots of Chicha: “Sonido Amazonico”

What you are listening to right now is the long lost classic from the Peruvian Amazon entitled, “Sonido Amazonico” by the chicha band, Los Mirlos. There are few compilations that can truly embody the spirit of a musical movement as arcane as 70’s psychedelic cumbia. Yet Olivier Conan, founder of Barbes records, unearthed some gems from his travels and accomplished just that with his release of The Roots of Chicha, a critically acclaimed compilation that’s having every DJ talking about it.

Ethan’s Travels - Hove

Hove, Norway
(pronounced: Hoe-Va)
Entry Date: 6/23/08

We finally arrived in Norway. Oslo has quite the airport, looking more like the centerfold of Dwell magazine with it’s tall wooden ceilings and Danish modern chairs.
The drive to Hove is very green, the air cold and clean, and there are birds and deer everywhere. There is a caution sign for moose

Rebirth of Cumbia-psych

Interview with Chicha Libre

Surrounded by snow-capped volcanoes, I wiped the jet lag off my brow and took a moment to catch my breath—a belabored process due to high elevation (a staggering 7,700 feet above sea-level). It was my first night in Arequipa, Peru and I sat down to a sumptuous three-course meal for two, which amounted to about the mere price of a deli sandwich back in Los Angeles.
